The US Census Bureau reported on Tuesday that the number of construction work in March rose by 0.3% compared to February 2022. Completion of homes declined by 4.5% compared to February, whereas the building permits for homes rose by 0.4%. In relation to March 2021, these figures were 3.9% higher, 13.0% lower or 6.7% higher.
The number of construction work in March 2022 was 2.8% above the consensus estimate of the economists surveyed by Reuters. The positive report on the housing construction in March was preceded by a rather unpleasant report by the housing construction companies in which the Nahb/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) fell to the lowest level in seven months in early April.
